also-ran noun 1) sport спортсмен, не оказавшийся в тройке призёров, не за-нявший призового места 2) sport спортсмен/команда, регулярно не занимающиепризовых мест, выбывающие из игры 3) sport лошадь, не оказавшаяся на скачках втройке призёров, не занявшая призового места 4) посредственность, заурядныйчеловек; пустое место (в искусстве, политике и т. п.) 5) вечный неудачник (оспортсмене, коне); первый с конца; пустой номер
